Digital marketing FAQs

Straight answers to the questions business owners ask us most: pricing, contracts, SEO, Google Ads, websites and what working with us looks like.

Nothing matches that. Try another word, or ask us.

Red flags to watch for

Use these with any agency you speak to, including us.

“Guaranteed Page 1” or guaranteed results

Nobody controls Google or your buyers. A guarantee usually means ranking for terms nobody searches, or a promise that quietly disappears.

Ask: What's a realistic timeline, and how will I see progress each month?

You don't own your accounts

If the agency owns your ad account, website, domain or analytics, leaving means starting again from nothing.

Ask: If we part ways, what do I keep? The answer should be everything.

A cut of your ad spend

When the fee is a percentage of spend, the agency earns more when you spend more, not when you win more work.

Ask: Is ad spend paid straight to Google from my own account?

A long lock-in from day one

A 12-month contract protects the agency, not you. Good results should be the reason you stay.

Ask: What's the minimum term, and what's the notice period?

Sold by a senior, run by a junior

The person who wins your business often isn't the one doing the work once you've signed.

Ask: Who exactly will run my account day to day?

Reports full of clicks, not enquiries

Traffic and impressions look good in a report. They don't pay wages. Calls, forms and quotes do.

Ask: Will you track calls and form enquiries back to each campaign?

A price that looks too good

£299 a month buys a few hours. Someone has to do the keyword research, write the pages and watch the bids. If it's cheap, ask what's being left out.

Ask: How many hours a month does that price buy, and who does them?

Common misconceptions

Things we hear a lot, and what's actually true.

“Marketing is a quick fix.”

Google Ads can produce enquiries in weeks. SEO takes months. Either way, the first stretch is about finding what works for your trade, then putting more behind it.

“If the ads aren't converting, the ads are the problem.”

Often it's the landing page, the offer, or how quickly someone picks up the phone. We look at the whole journey before blaming the ads.

“Every agency offers the same thing, so go cheapest.”

The difference is in what they know about your market. An installer selling to facility managers needs very different keywords, pages and proof from a garage selling MOTs.

“We get our work from word of mouth, so we don't need marketing.”

Referrals are great until they slow down. Even referred buyers look you up on Google first. If your site doesn't hold up, some of them go elsewhere.

Pricing & contracts

How much does digital marketing cost?

Monthly packages start from £600 for Search, £1,500 for Lead Generation and £4,000 for Growth. SEO packages run £600, £1,300 and £2,500 a month for local, regional and national. Websites start from £1,500. All prices exclude VAT, and ad spend is extra, paid straight to Google or Meta. Your proposal is sized after a call.

How do payments work?

Monthly fees are paid in advance. One-off fees, such as a website build, are invoiced separately and paid before work starts.

Is there a fixed contract?

Search and Lead Generation run month to month. If you commit to 3 months, we waive the £300 setup fee. Growth has a 3-month minimum with setup included. A website build has no ongoing contract once it's delivered.

Are there other costs I should know about?

Ad spend, which goes directly to Google or Meta from your own account, and website hosting, which Webflow bills to you. If anything else applies, like photography, it's written into your proposal before you agree to it.

How much should I spend on advertising?

It depends on your click costs and what a customer is worth to you. In fire and security, clicks can cost £15–£26, so a test budget of a few hundred pounds won't tell you much. We'll show you the real numbers for your market before you commit.

Do you take a percentage of ad spend?

No. Our fee covers strategy, setup, management, testing and reporting. Ad spend is charged by Google or Meta directly to you. We never take a cut.

Who owns my accounts?

You do. Ad accounts, analytics, domain and website are all set up in your business's name.

SEO & Google

When can I expect to see SEO results?

Usually 4–6 months for local searches and 6–12 months for national ones. You'll see movement in rankings and impressions before enquiries pick up.

Can you guarantee a first-page ranking?

No one honestly can. Google controls the rankings. What we can show you is the Page 1 positions we've won and held for clients, some of them for years.

Can you get my business recommended by ChatGPT and Google's AI answers?

We can make it much more likely. AI answers draw on the same things Google trusts: clear service pages, consistent business details, reviews and mentions on other sites. We build all of that and check how you show up in AI answers as part of SEO.

Why do I see different positions when I search myself?

Google personalises results by location, device and search history. We track rankings from a neutral position so the numbers are comparable month to month.

What does your SEO reporting cover?

Rankings for the searches that matter, traffic from Google, and most importantly the calls and enquiries that came from it, with a short note on what we did and what's next.

Google Ads & paid social

How long does it take to see results from Google Ads?

You'll have early data within 2–4 weeks. From month two we're cutting what doesn't work and putting more behind what does.

Do you write the ads?

Yes. Ad copy, landing page advice and, where needed, images and video for paid social. You approve anything new before it goes live.

What is A/B testing and why does it matter?

Running two versions of an ad or page side by side to see which brings more enquiries. Small wins add up, and it stops decisions being based on opinion.

Can I see how my ads are doing?

Yes. You have full access to your own ad account and a live dashboard, plus a monthly review with us.

Websites

How long does a website build take?

Usually 4–8 weeks for a Branded site and 8–12 weeks for a Bespoke build, depending on how quickly content and approvals come back.

What platform do you build on?

Webflow. It's fast, secure, easy for you to edit and good for SEO. For more complex builds we also use custom code.

Are there ongoing costs after the site is built?

Hosting, which Webflow bills to you directly, and your domain. Ongoing changes, SEO or support are optional.

Can I move my site to my own account?

It's built in your account from the start, so there's nothing to move.

Working with us

What sectors do you work with?

Fire safety and suppression is our specialist sector. We also work with security, medical and healthcare, automotive, property, charities and home retail. If you're outside those, ask. We'll tell you straight whether we're a fit.

Who will manage my account?

The person who plans your campaign runs it, backed by specialists in paid search, SEO and web development. You're never passed around.

How involved do I need to be?

An hour or so at the start so we understand your services, margins and best customers, then a monthly review. We do the rest.

How do you use AI?

For research, keyword analysis, ad testing and first drafts. Experienced people make every decision and check everything before you see it. It costs you nothing extra.

What happens if results aren't where they should be?

You'll hear it from us first, with what we think is wrong and what we're changing. If the problem is outside marketing, like your website or follow-up, we'll say so.

Are you a Google and Meta partner?

Yes. We're a Google Partner and a Meta Business Partner. Your ad accounts are still set up in your business's name, not ours.
